Who I am & How I help

Nicole Marcia (she/her)
MA, MC, RCC, C-IAYT

I founded Fine Balance Counselling & Yoga Therapy with a belief in interdependence—the idea that we are all connected. My mission is to create communities of care for life’s transitions, foster meaningful partnerships, and address trauma in all its forms.

I offer deep, ongoing therapy, which works best when we meet regularly. Because of that, I ask for a commitment to weekly or bi-weekly sessions.

As a counsellor, my focus is on:

  • Making sure you feel seen, heard, and understood.

  • Creating a safe space where you can be your true self.

  • Offering non-judgmental support, no matter what you’re going through.

  • Centering your needs and your process, at your pace.

  • Building a strong therapeutic relationship—because research shows that when there's a good fit between therapist and client, real and lasting change is possible.

Compassionate. Trauma-informed. Deeply experienced.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Certified Yoga Therapist offering trauma-informed care for people navigating life’s most difficult experiences.

I believe that healing is possible — and that we each have the capacity to reconnect with our strength, dignity, and wholeness.

A foundation in mind-body healing

My work is grounded in more than 15 years of experience at the intersection of mental health, addiction recovery, and yoga therapy. In 2009, I completed a Master’s degree in Yoga Therapy from Lesley University in Boston, MA, and spent nearly a decade as the Director of Therapeutic Yoga Programming for the Provincial Health Services Authority, serving clients at Burnaby Centre for Mental Health & Addictions and Riverview Psychiatric Hospital.

From 2007 to 2018, I worked at Onsite, North America’s first supervised injection site, offering trauma-informed yoga therapy to people navigating severe addiction, mental illness, and systemic marginalization.

Deep training in trauma-sensitive care

In 2016, I became certified as a Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F) by the Justice Resource Institute. I also spent over 15 years mentoring teachers as the Director of Teacher Training and Mentorship at Yoga Outreach, a non-profit supporting access to trauma-informed yoga across British Columbia.

I’ve facilitated therapeutic classes for teens and women fleeing human trafficking, and have trained yoga and healthcare professionals internationally to integrate trauma-sensitive principles into their work.

Bringing it all together: Yoga therapy & clinical counselling

In 2024, I earned a second Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and graduated with President’s Honors from City University of Seattle. I am now a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #22386), a Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (#11243483), and a registered provider with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP).

My clinical work combines EMDR, AEDP, and trauma-informed yoga therapy to support nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and deeper self-understanding.

Specialized support for first responders

I hold a Silver Seal of Endorsement from the BC Professional Fire Fighters Association for advanced training in first responder trauma, and I’m proud to serve as faculty with Simon Fraser University Continuing Studies in the First Responder Trauma Prevention Certificate Program.

Let’s work together.
